Novorossiysk resort is a mystery city. In terms of the quality of its beaches, it is clearly inferior to Anapa and Gelendzhik, does not have its own airport, is famous as a large cargo port and is even covered in cement dust - but still there are no fewer tourists here than in the best resorts of the Krasnodar Territory. Why is this so?
Travelers have different reasons. For some, the number of attractions is important: there are clearly more of them in Novorossiysk than in resort towns.
Some people are happy to find beaches on the Black Sea where there is free space during the high season. And someone knows that the village of Abrau-Dyurso, next door to Novorossiysk, is a cozy place for a family holiday (also with its own sparkling wine factory).
Holidays with children in Novorossiysk will appeal to those who love variety. In Kidpassage's article you will read about the city's main attractions, best beaches and family entertainment.
The best attractions in the vicinity of Novorossiysk:
Memorial "Defense Line"
Memorial "Defense Line"
The heroism of the defenders of Novorossiysk is immortalized by the monumental ensemble “Defense Line”. The location for the memorial was not chosen by chance. It was here, near the cement, that the city’s defenders faced their death. Warriors of 9 nationalities repelled about 200 enemy attacks.
And now a reinforced concrete giant is located above the Sukhumi highway. If you drive from Novorossiysk, then on the monument there are 4 hands tightly gripping machine guns. If you enter the city, you can see the military awards of Novorossiysk. Nearby on a pedestal stands a freight car that took part in those heroic events and covered the defenders. Most of its surface is covered in holes from bullets and shells.
The best way to understand the scale of those events is to drive a car. Near the memorial there is a parking lot and an observation deck. Here you can bow to our heroes. At the same time, look at the city - interesting views open up from here.

The village of Myskhako, where the winery is located, is actually a quarter of Novorossiysk. Just over ten years ago, vineyards dominated the area. Now the prestigious area is built up with villas of wealthy citizens.
The fact is that the winery, having a rich history - and its founding is considered to be 1869, has experienced difficult times more than once. It developed steadily, changing owners. By 2014 there were 800 hectares of vineyards. But the company went bankrupt, the territory was divided up by new owners who considered it more profitable to build housing here.
A smaller part of the vine was still preserved. And in 2022, financial support for wine production and energetic managers appeared. As a result, the winery is working and it seems that it may have a good future.
The winery has some good wines that you can taste on a tour. Those who do not drink alcohol are invited to walk around the enterprise, see the old cellars and the production process. And to end the visit, a great option is to visit the Cuvee restaurant located nearby. On the spacious terrace with sea views, signature dishes from the chef are perfect.

Observation deck "Seven Winds"
In the vicinity of Novorossiysk there is a place where people go up to admire the city. Its neighborhoods on the shores of Tsemes Bay, framed by mountains, are worth a look at them from the Seven Winds observation deck on St. Andrew's Pass. Unfortunately, unlike the embankment, which is focused on people, they are trying to make the observation deck inaccessible to them. Previously, you could drive here, but now the road is blocked and you have to walk.
"Seven Winds" was known for its restaurant and gang warfare. Now only ruins remain of the restaurant, and the showdown has grown into legends.

“The most precious thing a person has is life. It is given to him once, and he must live it in such a way that it does not cause excruciating pain for the years spent aimlessly.”
The most famous quote from Nikolai Ostrovsky’s novel “How the Steel Was Tempered” was his motto. He lived in Novorossiysk in 1926-28. in the house where it is now located there is a museum dedicated to him.
In our time, the writer’s work would be called a cult. The novel was the most popular literary work. In the USSR he had 536 publications with a total circulation of more than 36.4 million copies. “How the Steel Was Tempered” has been translated into many languages around the world.
Unfortunately, in Russia the novel has lost its significance. We now have different values and ideals. And China, for example, in 2000 made a 20-episode film based on the novel, which was recognized as the best TV series of the year.

Externally, the monument resembles the front part of a warship, half of which is on land and the other “at sea.” On both parts, the height of which reaches 22 meters, there are relief images of soldiers going into battle to protect their native lands. The memorial was erected in memory of the Marines who carried out the victorious landing operation in February 1943.
“Malaya Zemlya” can be explored for a long time. Inside there is a gallery of military glory: on the walls you will see portraits of heroes who fought for the city, and the dramatic music playing enhances the impression. You can swim safely only in mid-June, when the water warms up to +22-23°C. In the hottest months, the sea can warm up to +26-27°C, although more often the water temperature in Novorossiysk remains at +24-25°C.
In September the sea maintains a temperature of +25°C for a long time. The water usually cools down to +21-22°C by the beginning of October.

Architecture and monuments of the city of Novorossiysk
Among the things you should definitely see in Novorossiysk, it is necessary to highlight monuments and monuments, of which there are really a lot here. Architecture lovers will also find something to admire, as there are plenty of beautiful buildings in the city.
Memorial "Border of Defense"
- Address: st. Tsemesskaya. Transport stop "Kirillovsky turn".
The incredibly expressive memorial complex was inaugurated in 1978 on the 35th anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazis. It was in this place that the line of defense of the Soviet troops passed, blocking the path of the Wehrmacht armadas, eager for the oil of Baku and Grozny.
The monumental ensemble includes a podium with memorial steles, the skeleton of a railway carriage riddled with bullets and shell fragments, as well as a monument towering over the road. It is a reinforced concrete pylon, from which the hands of soldiers, clutching machine guns, seem to grow. The memorial looks solemn and impressive.
Fountain "Giving Water"
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop "Hotel Chernomorskaya".
Novorossiysk, like some other cities in southern Russia, does not have its own fresh water storage facilities, so there have always been certain problems with water supply here. In the last third of the last century, the situation worsened so much that water was brought into the city by tankers. The construction of a water pipeline helped to overcome the crisis.
In honor of this event, a fountain-monument was installed on the embankment. Its monumental component is the sculpture of a beautiful girl crouched on her knees, from whose hands streams of water flow into the pool. Over time, the statue began to collapse. In 2006, a new statue cast from stainless steel was installed in its place. The townspeople love the monument very much, and tourists throw coins into the fountain to return to Novorossiysk again.
Monument "Exodus"
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop "TK Gallery".
The background to the appearance of the monument is connected with the tragic moments of the Civil War era. Then about 50 thousand people, among whom were refugees, officers and soldiers of the White Guard, tried to leave Russia on foreign ships docked in the port. There wasn't enough space for everyone. More than a third of people were never able to emigrate.
In memory of this event, a monument was erected on the embankment of Novorossiysk in 2013. The sculptural composition depicting a White Guard pulling a horse by the reins to the sea is inspired by a scene from the film “Two Comrades Served.” By the way, the statue of the officer bears a resemblance to V. Vysotsky, who played the role of Lieutenant Brusentsov in the film, forced to shoot the faithful steed that rushed after the sailing ship into the sea.
City Palace of Culture building
- Address: st. Sovetov, 9. Transport stop "Kutuzova".
A magnificent monument of Stalinist architecture, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Novorossiysk, was inaugurated in 1937. This is a real palace with an antique eight-column portico divided by a high arch.
The decor of the building is luxurious. Carved cornices, stucco moldings, and luxurious column capitals attract the eye. Above the central entrance there will be a high relief depicting the city's coat of arms. The exterior of the building makes a wonderful impression.
Golitsyn Castle
- Address: Sukhumskoe highway, 31.
Those who want to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of an old German castle should use their imagination and explore the ruins of the dacha of academician Boris Borisovich Golitsyn, the so-called “Golitsyn Castle”.
The dacha was built by a seismologist in 1901 in the Gothic style, characteristic of German architecture of the 19th century. Now all that remains are ruins, which are under the protection of the Ministry of Defense.
Ruins of the Tsementnikov House of Culture
- Address: M-4 Don, 1541st kilometer.
Near Polyclinic No. 3, near the Sukhumi highway, you can see an outstanding monument of Soviet architecture, which is currently in a deplorable state. The ruins of the Tsementnikov Palace of Culture remind everyone how terrible war can be, because it suffered from shelling during the Second World War.
Novorossiysk lighthouse
- Address: Serebryakov embankment.
It is also recommended to visit the local Lighthouse in Novorossiysk on your own - a small metal structure in the center of Tsemes Bay, which is not functioning today. But it is not he himself that is interesting, but the pier, which is distinguished by its extraordinary length.
It's a nice place to walk or ride a bike, and you can also fish right from it. But it is especially recommended to visit this attraction at dawn – the views awaiting guests are simply amazing.
Sculptural composition “Girl on a Dolphin”
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop “Park im. Lenin".
Tourists love to take pictures at this elegant monument, which townspeople often call “The Dolphin and the Mermaid.” Indeed, the metal sculpture, decorated in bronze, symbolizes the carefree nature of a holiday at a southern resort.
Sculptures of a dolphin pleased with himself and a beauty sitting on him, whose hair is blown by the sea breeze, are placed on a granite boulder. If you want your wish to come true, make it and rub the metal back of the charming inhabitant of the depths.
Monument to Geshe Kozodoev
- Address: Sudzhuk Spit. Transport stop "NGMA".
Perhaps the most colorful monument in Novorossiysk is located on the Sundzhuk Spit. In 2010, on a small island, often covered by waves, a monument to the charming adventurer Geshe Kozodoev was erected.
The bronze embodiment of the hero of the immortal comedy “The Diamond Arm” walks on the water with a snag on which the swimming trunks of Lelik, no less beloved by the people, are developing. It is worth noting that the sculpture bears no resemblance to the magnificent artist Andrei Mironov, who played Gesha in the film. However, the art object does not lose anything from this.
Death Valley and Monument Explosion
- Address: Novorossiyskaya street, Myskhako.
In the village of Myskhako near Novorossiysk there is a memorial complex called “Death Valley”. It is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War, drawing citizens and tourists to the tragic events of 1943, when the heroic defense of Malaya Zemlya was carried out.
For this small area of territory, fierce battles went on for 7 months, the land was burning in the literal sense of the word.

Monument to Pushkin
- Address: Park Alley.
A.S. Pushkin died before the city of Novorossiysk was founded. But this did not stop the residents of Novorossiysk from creating a monument to the poet, because his work is familiar from childhood and loved by all Russians. The monument was opened in 1999. Its authors are sculptor Alexander Suvorov and architect Ivan Krikun.
The monument is made of bronze. A.S. Pushkin is depicted sitting on a bench with a manuscript and a pen in his hands: it seems that the poet was “caught” at the moment of creating a literary work. On the pedestal there are lines from the poem “To Chaadaev”: “My friend, let us dedicate our souls to our homeland with wonderful impulses.”

Part of the Novorossiysk embankment in Tsemes Bay is called Cape of Love. This is a wonderful observation deck, which was captured in his work by the artist Ivan Aivazovsky. The history of the place is covered in legends. Once upon a time there was a site where slaves were traded.
But even forced people are capable of strong feelings. The lovers could not be together and threw themselves off a cliff so that after death their souls would be united. There are other love stories associated with this place, because it is no coincidence that this is the Cape of Love.
