Mount Hedgehog is a natural symbol of the village. Arkhipo-Osipovka

A lovely natural attraction on the shore of Arkhipo-Osipovka is Mount Hedgehog. Outwardly, it resembles this forest animal - cream-colored rocks form its muzzle, and the dense forest serves as needles.

The peak is located on the Black Sea coast in Vulan Bay, named after the river that flows here.

The height of Mount Hedgehog in Arkhipo-Osipovka is only 245 m in the central part.

From the east it is limited by the beach, on the other side of which there is another ridge - the Camel. It does not look very much like the animal it is named after, so it is not so popular among tourists. The Teshebs River flows through the mountain from the north and west. Its length is about 13 km. At the foot it flows into the sea. On the eastern part of the mountain there is the Derkachev Gap.

How to climb Mount Hedgehog

Finding the path on Mount Hedgehog is not difficult - along the Arkhipo-Osipovka embankment you need to go to the left if you are facing the sea. The path continues until the tourist sees the Teshebs River. You can cross it by crossing the bridge - it is located about 100 m to the left, or simply along the seashore. Sometimes in the summer the river dries out so much that you can immediately step over it. This is where the main path upward begins. Usually it takes no more than 1 hour.

Even children can cope with the climb to Mount Hedgehog. It is only important to choose the right shoes: you cannot even go out on this route in beach flip-flops and sandals. The ascent and descent are quite steep, your feet will slip, and you can get seriously injured. You need to wear light sneakers with non-slip soles.

You shouldn't leave the well-trodden road. This path goes along a rocky gutter. It is tested and safe. After a sharp climb, you can walk over the cliff along the beach and reach Cape Left.

The first observation deck is located at an altitude of 45 m. More beautiful views open from the second, which is 67 m high. It is more popular among tourists - the most beautiful photographs are taken here, and the coast and harbor are clearly visible. If you look in the other direction, you can see residential buildings and hotels, as well as other mountain peaks.

From the observation deck the road goes towards Dzhubga. From here you can see the endless sea, the water of which is azure blue.

It’s not difficult to climb to the highest point of the mountain at 245 m, but you won’t be able to see anything: dense forest and bushes grow around. You can come here just for yourself.

History of the village

When talking about interesting places in Russia, one cannot fail to mention the village of Dzhubga. Sights, excursions and trips around this city are in one way or another connected with its history.

And the very name of the settlement comes from antiquity; translated from the Adyghe language it means “valley of the winds.” Although there are other translations: “flat place”, “place where the fog spreads” and even “night beauty”.

The village of Dzhubga was founded at the mouth of the river in 1864, after the eviction of the indigenous inhabitants - the Shapsugs. The village was the headquarters of the Shapsug coastal battalion.

Initially, about 360 people (65 families) lived here. Nowadays the Stanichka microdistrict is located in these places. After the liquidation of the battalion in 1870, the settlement was renamed the village of Dzhubga, which later became a village.

By 1905, the village consisted of 74 households of Russian peasants. The main impetus for the development of the village was the construction of a port by the Crimean-Caucasian Shipping Company. Customs, post office, telegraph and visiting summer residents appeared in the settlement.

In 1935, a holiday home was opened in Dzhubga. At the same time, a park was founded, which adorns the village to this day. And in 1966, the settlement was given the status of a resort village.

The coast of Dzhubga is located between Cape Shapsho and the town of Hedgehog, which, according to the plan, actually looks like a prickly animal.

Inal Bay itself received its name in honor of the first Christian preacher who appeared on the Black Sea coast in the 5th century. Little is known about his fate.
