The exhibition “300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecutor's Office: from the foundation to the collapse of the Soviet Union” demonstrates interesting documents, personal belongings of leaders and employees of the supervisory agency - more than 100 exhibits in total. Particular attention is paid to materials from court cases, departmental awards, uniforms of prosecutors, and publications of legislative acts.
After the abolition of the old police by decree of the Provisional Government of March 5, 1917, gendarmerie departments began to be destroyed and archives began to be burned. Unlike other provinces, the Voronezh administration immediately transferred documents and other valuable things like seals to the museum, which are now kept in a single copy. During the Great Patriotic War, two thirds of the archive, unfortunately, burned down, but the gendarmerie card file with data on all those under investigation was preserved. 12+
Second day
Having explored the historical center of Voronezh on the first day, it’s worth going to explore lesser-known and more remote tourist sites. Another option is a trip outside the city: the Voronezh region is famous for its picturesque landscapes.
Monument to the ship "Mercury"
If you plan to stay in the city, then start the day with a trip to the area around the Vogresovsky Bridge . Near the bridge, in the waters of the Voronezh Reservoir , there is a monument to the ship "Mercury" . A replica of the ship was installed on a concrete power line pole in 1972. It is believed that in Peter’s times there was a lock here, equipped with a dam to raise the water level. What is Barquelon Mercury known for? This sailing-rowing warship was built at a shipyard in Voronezh, and later successfully participated in battles on the southern borders of Russia. Once, it even sank, but was raised and repaired. "Mercury" served its service until 1716 - then the decommissioned ship was dismantled.
Since the monument is located in the center of the water area, it is difficult to see it in detail from the shore or bridge - it is better to approach by boat or, if you are visiting Voronezh in winter, to approach closer on the ice. Every year the ship tilts its hull lower and lower towards the water - it is often called the Voronezh analogue of the Leaning Tower of Pisa .

Scarlet Sails Park
Go to the left bank of the river and take a walk along the Aircraft Builders embankment - this will take you to the Scarlet Sails park . This is one of the centers of cultural life of the city. The pine park overlooking the dam is perfect for families with children, picnics and active pastime. In the warm season, the park often hosts concerts and other entertainment events. The territory is divided into thematic zones: green, city of birds, library. There are areas for outdoor games.

Diorama
Behind the park is the Diorama Museum . It was founded on the basis of a center for patriotic education. The opening was timed to coincide with the 55th anniversary of the Victory Day. In front of the museum there are models of military equipment and sculptures dedicated to the heroes of the Fatherland. The exhibition inside the museum (visiting is free) is divided into several thematic sections. One hall introduces visitors to the heroes of the city who participated in the Great Patriotic War. In another room you can see a diorama clearly demonstrating the battles on the Chizhovsky bridgehead.
On the second floor of the museum there is an exhibition dedicated to the navy with objects from the time of Peter I. Here you can also learn the history of the development of aviation in Voronezh. A separate hall is dedicated to internationalist soldiers who fought in Afghanistan, Cuba and the North Caucasus.

Monument "Rotunda"
Take a taxi or public transport back to the Central District of Voronezh. The next point on the route is the intersection of Burdenko and Transportnaya streets. The Rotunda monument and the Vladimir Church are located here . The rotunda is the remains of a building reminiscent of the destructive power of war. Before the war, there was a clinical hospital built here in the 30s. During the Battle of Voronezh, the hospital area became the site of fierce fighting: it repeatedly passed from one side to the other. After the war, bricks from the walls of the dilapidated hospital were stolen, and there were no funds for restoration. All that was left of the hospital was a reinforced concrete frame with columns and a dome. Residents began to call the building “Rotunda”. Later, the authorities decided to leave the Rotunda as a monument.

Kitten from Lizyukov Street
3.5 km from the Rotunda is one of the most famous street sculptures in the city. The monument to the cartoon character “Kitten from Lizyukov Street” was erected in 2003 in front of the entrance to the Mir cinema. The monument is removed from the center - for the sake of credibility, it was installed on General Lizyukov Street, where the Voronezh cartoon character lived. The sculptural composition consists of a tree, on the branches of which the kitten Vasya and a crow are sitting. In Voronezh it is considered a good omen to pet a kitten. But the monument often becomes a victim of vandals—the kitten’s wire whiskers are broken off.

The rest of the day can be devoted to leisurely walks around your favorite places, relaxing in one of the parks or country trips.

Divnogorye Museum-Reserve
80 km south of Voronezh is the architectural and archaeological museum-reserve "Divnogorye" . Divnogorye is located on the picturesque bank of the Don River next to the village of the same name. Currently, Divnogorye is a candidate for inclusion in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The total area of the protected area is 11 sq. km. The landscape consists of chalk deposits in the form of pillars-outcrops (maximum height - 181 meters). In the chalk remains you can find algae from the bottom of the ancient sea - when wet, these fragments of algae turn green and swell. The nature in the surrounding area is different from Voronezh - the border of the steppe zone passes here.
Divnogorye Photo: © Sonic_off
“Divnogorye” is not only a unique natural place, but also a center of pilgrimage. On the territory of the museum-reserve, as well as in its surroundings, there are cave churches in chalk rocks and the Divnogorsk Assumption Monastery . The most famous cave church is the Temple of the Sicilian Icon of the Mother of God . The Orthodox church was carved out of the chalk outcrop after 1831 - during this period the Sicilian Icon of the Mother of God was found here. Along the church stairs, tourists can climb to the top of the mountain (180 meters) and admire the views of the Tikhaya Sosna River valley and steppe expanses.
The Divnogorsk Assumption Monastery was founded in the 17th century, but the cave church is much older than the holy monastery. The monastery is active - you can walk around the territory for tourism purposes, or you can attend a divine service. On summer Sundays, a late liturgy is celebrated in the cave church. Also included in the museum-reserve is the Mayatskoye settlement of the 9th–10th centuries - a necropolis and the remains of medieval fortifications of the Khazars. There are trails with signs throughout the reserve, there is a campsite and a hotel. Several underground museums are planned to open.

Two new exhibitions are available to visit. The exhibition “0.8”, dedicated to the 155th anniversary of Wassily Kandinsky and the Russian avant-garde in general, consists of eight works created by eight members of the creative association “AzArt”: Olga Anokhina, Irina Bobrova, Natalia Gorsheneva, Olga Elchaninova, Alevtina Ryzhkova, Natalia Khodeeva, Victor Tsiryanidi, Olga Ivannikova. The number 8 in the name is not accidental: it symbolizes infinity, continuity, and eternity of art. Artists of the AzArt association explored the possibilities of combining immortal (despite the claims of avant-garde artists) classics and artistic methods of the early 20th century. The works of the authors of the exhibition “0.8” are a kind of response to the ten participants of the sensational exhibition “0.10”, which canceled the entire past in 1915. You can view the works until January 16.
The exhibition “Plasticity and Color” of the family union of Tamara and Yuri Astapchenko opened on the third floor. The exhibition features about 40 works of painting, graphics and sculpture. The masters work in traditional genres: Tamara prefers landscape, still life, Yuri prefers one- or two-figure chamber compositions. In a language understandable to many, they talk about man and his world. The exhibition will last until January 23. 6+

Lumet's picture is disconcerting and humorous: it is a journalistic farce, a hilarious farce, a mockery of the times and a sharply written portrait of a profession in which, by 1976, almost all the professionals seemed to have gone mad. 16+

TOP-5 sights of Voronezh
Acquaintance with the numerous sights of the city usually begins with a visit to the most striking of them. Images of the main symbols of Voronezh decorate booklets and other presentation products dedicated to the metropolis.
Admiralty Square
- Address: st. S. Perovskaya. Transport stop "Admiralteyskaya Square".
The main visiting card of Voronezh, undoubtedly, is the magnificent Admiralty Square. The grand opening of the recreation was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Navy, celebrated in 1996. The landscape and architectural ensemble includes the Assumption Admiralty Cathedral, an elegant arcade. The dominant feature of the composition is the majestic rostral column. The majestic structure, 28 meters high and decorated with the rostra of ships, seems to grow from its base in the form of the famous Voronezh plow. There are ancient ship cannons along the embankment. The floating museum “Goto-Predestination” is moored to it.
Monument to Peter I
- Address: Petrovsky Square. Transport stop "Petrovsky Square".
Voronezh owes a lot to the first Russian emperor. Under him, the city rose to prominence and became a stronghold for gaining control over the Sea of Azov. Therefore, the fact that one of the first monuments to the reformer tsar appeared here is not surprising. The pedestal for the statue took almost a year to build. For this purpose, 7 massive granite slabs and a huge boulder were delivered to the city from the Pavlovsk quarries. When the pedestal was ready, a bronze figure of Peter the Great was installed on it. It looks very realistic. The emperor's facial features repeat the death mask, the details of the costume are worked out to the smallest detail. During the Second World War, Petrovskaya Square found itself in the occupation zone. The Nazis removed the statue from its pedestal and sent it to be melted down. Only in January 1956 did a copy of the sculpture take its rightful place.
Blagoveshchensky cathedral
- Opening hours: daily, from 6:00 to 19:00.
- Telephone.
- Website: https://www.sobor-vrn.ru
- Address: Revolution Avenue, 18A. Transport stop "Pervomaisky Garden".
The majestic cathedral, which took 11 years to build and was consecrated in 2009, is one of the calling cards of Voronezh that has appeared in modern times. It is one of the three largest Orthodox churches in Russia. The main dome of the church, crowned with a cross shining in the sun, rises 85 m. The main building forms a single volume with a refectory and a four-tier bell tower. The facades of the white-stone cathedral are decorated with the magnificent solemnity characteristic of the Russian-Byzantine style. The building looks amazing. The church contains the relics of the Hieromartyr Peter, Saints Tikhon of Zadonsk and Mitrofan of Voronezh.
Memorial on Victory Square
- Address: Victory Square. Transport stop "House of Officers".
The city sacredly honors the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for their Motherland during the Second World War. In their honor, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Victory, a memorial complex was solemnly opened on the square of the same name. Its dominant feature is a sculptural composition of 12 figures mounted on a pedestal lined with red granite. Bronze sculptures depict Soviet soldiers of all branches of the military, fighters of partisan detachments and militia, home front workers, a woman-mother with a baby in her arms. The torch of the Eternal Flame burns in front of the monument. Along the perimeter of the square there are granite slabs containing the names of the military units that defended the city. The ensemble is completed by a double 40-meter stele, the pylons of which are connected in the upper part by a sculptural embodiment of the Order of the Patriotic War.
Frigate "Mercury"
- Address: Voronezh Reservoir.
The masters of the Ramon shipyard, located along the banks of the Voronezh River, were able to do so at the beginning of the 18th century. surprise sophisticated European shipbuilders by creating excellent warships that brought the Russian fleet dominance in the Sea of Azov. A reminder of this is a life-size model of the 26-gun frigate Mercury, placed on a pedestal in the middle of the Voronezh Reservoir. The prototype of the monument is the barcalon “Mercurius”, which took part in the Kerch campaign of Peter the Great, received holes and sank, but was raised and served the St. Andrew’s flag for a long time. Over time, the attraction began to look even more colorful. The concrete base has deviated from the vertical due to subsidence of the soil, which makes it seem that the frigate is heading towards the target against the winds and waves. In winter, you can reach the monument on the ice of the reservoir; in summer, pleasure boats stop at it.

What to bring from Voronezh
Stickers with district logos
Voronezh designer Mark Boldyrev came up with daring logos for unofficial areas of the city, where it is considered dangerous to walk in the dark, and made stickers with them. You can also order a T-shirt from him with the names of these areas.

The magazine can be borrowed for free in coffee shops, flower shops and beauty salons. The full list of places is in the group on the social network VKontakte.
Zines of Voronezh comic book authors
The comics publishing house "Grotesk" produces zines (amateur small-circulation publications) and postcards related to Voronezh. For example, their authors created a series of parody zines about anthropomorphic crows who save the city from Peter I, collect semcoins (from the word “bitcoins”) and lead a riotous life on the streets of Voronezh. This year, the publishing house released a zine about Yura Khoy from the Gaza Strip: the musician lived in Voronezh, in one of the disadvantaged areas. Another great souvenir is “Grotesque” postcards from the “Memory” series with Voronezh monuments, including Bim.
You can purchase zines and postcards from the publisher directly or buy them at your local comics shop.
Antiques
For those who love unique antiques, but don’t want to rummage through a flea market, we recommend bringing a souvenir from the Zanovo project. Soviet posters, music boxes, vases, Primus stoves and other household items are sold here. And if you are not afraid of the size of souvenirs, you can even take restored shell chairs, a table or a sofa.
