Ivanovo region

, according to the 2010 census, includes 3048
settlements
, including:

  • 30 urban settlements (highlighted in orange in the lists), including: 17 cities,
  • 13 urban-type settlements;
  • 3018 rural settlements.
  • In the lists, settlements are distributed among 6 cities corresponding to the category of regional subordination and 21 districts.

The population of settlements is given according to the 2010 population census[1], the population of urban settlements (urban-type settlements (working villages) and cities) is estimated as of January 1, 2022[2].

Abandoned villages of the Ivanovo region

The rich and long history of the region was marked by the construction of a large number of villages that flourished until the onset of widespread urbanization, during which many of them were abandoned by their inhabitants.

Nowadays they are regularly visited only by stalkers who are constantly searching for abandoned objects.

    Village Galkino

The village of Galkino in the wilderness of the Ivanovo region is one of the few settlements that were abandoned not due to global urbanization.

The reason for this was the underground test site for the experimental use of nuclear weapons, located nearby.

In the eighties, one of the tests did not go according to plan and, as a result of the explosion, a large amount of radionuclides was released into the atmosphere, causing damage to the ecology of the nearby area.

The village of Galkino also fell under radiation contamination, whose residents decided not to risk their lives and leave their homes forever.

Now the background radiation in the abandoned village is within acceptable levels, but no one is risking repopulating the territory.

The abandoned houses still stand in their places with completely preserved furnishings, which even the looters did not encroach on.

    Village Batyevo

The old village of Batyevo is located in a picturesque area of the Ivanovo region, entirely dotted with rural settlements.

This is the only ghost village in this region, the others continue to function.

Presumably Batyevo was built in the 18th century and existed somewhere until the middle of the past.

The many years of unattended existence of the houses have left them in a sad state.

The wooden buildings are quite rotten and are no longer suitable for habitation.

All the internal utensils left by the owners were stolen by residents of neighboring settlements.

    Cities

Cities corresponding to the category of regional subordination, according to the State Committee for State Property Management (Vichuga, Ivanovo, Kineshma, Kokhma, Teykovo, Shuya) [3], form urban districts within the framework of the organization of local self-government.

Abandoned estates of the Ivanovo region

During the years of Tsarist Russia, a large number of landowners lived in the Ivanovo region, building majestic estates for their families, reflecting the high position of their owners.

With the coming to power of the revolutionaries, global nationalization began, during which all estates became the property of the state, and after the collapse of the USSR they were left unattended and since then, year after year, they have fallen into an increasingly abandoned state.

    Mansion of Ivan Mindovsky

All that remains of the once magnificent mansion of the country's richest manufacturer is ruins.

The Mindovsky family was quite wealthy and influential; they owned a huge number of buildings both in the Ivanovo region and beyond. But this particular mansion was considered the family nest.

In the post-revolutionary era, the estate went to the Soviet government, which never decided what to do with it, and subsequently the majestic estate stood in desolation and complete abandonment for a whole century.

Now nothing remains of it except ruins. There is no roof, no stairs, only openings remain from windows and doors.

    Manor Batyevo

The abandoned Batyevo estate is located on the outskirts of the ghost village of the same name.

It was built in the 17th century by a famous politician at the court of Peter the Great.

Over the following centuries, it belonged to several noble families, until it became the property of Soviet Power after the change of the political regime in the country.

During the years of the USSR, the premises of the old mansion were used as an orphanage, which was abandoned immediately after the mass movement of village residents to other settlements.

The classic four-story estate has fallen into disrepair over the years of neglect.

All the windows and doors are broken, there are bare walls and rotten wooden beams inside.

    Manufacturer Razorenov's estate

The Razorenovs' estate was built at the beginning of the 19th century on the banks of a picturesque river, on the other side of which there were outbuildings and living quarters for servants.

Subsequently, several more nobles owned it, each of whom contributed something of themselves to the estate.

Thanks to this, the estate territory grew, a beautiful park appeared nearby, behind which a whole grove was planted.

After the formation of the Soviet Union, a sanatorium was located on the estate, which was abandoned at the beginning of the 2000s.

Over the centuries of its existence, the old mansion has fallen into disrepair; complete destruction reigns inside, but on the outside, elements of the once beautiful decor have been preserved.

    Manufacturer Yamanovsky's estate

The old estate of the manufacturer Yamanovsky was built at the end of the 19th century and belonged to its owner for a short time.

During the years of Soviet Power it was transferred to the local village council.

The one-story wooden building was made in the classic Russian style with beautiful carvings and no unnecessary frills.

During the USSR, the inside was quite extensively altered, but the interior decoration remained untouched.

It was abandoned in the eighties, after which it became quite rotten.

Inside there are remains of furniture that the looters did not have time to reach.

    Tatishchev Estate

The magnificent building, which belonged to the Privy Councilor to the Tsar, was built at the very beginning of the 19th century by a famous Italian architect in a fashionable colonial style.

Over time, the building was expanded, making it more and more majestic.

During the USSR, the estate belonged to a local hospital, which added another wing to it.

After reconstruction, the old estate was abandoned. The windows were bricked up and all the interior furniture was taken out.

At the moment, the building is in terrible condition and is not guarded by anyone.

Abandoned schools in the Ivanovo region

Abandoned schools are another favorite place for stalkers. Old buildings, where children's laughter was once heard, preserve the spirit of this special atmosphere, filling it with the mystery that adventurers value so much.

In the Ivanovo region you can find several such buildings, abandoned for various reasons.

Most of them were devastated by looters; in a small part you can still find school paraphernalia.

Incomplete secondary school in the village of Petrovsky

The junior high school in the village of Petrovsky was intended to educate children in the 9th grade, and then the students went to high school or entered technical schools.

The building was built in pre-war times in a settlement strategically important for the USSR, whose residents worked at a military plant producing fuel, which was in short supply during the war.

The educational institution was in operation until 2009, after which it was closed due to a fire that occurred inside.

The emergency damaged the supporting structure, which required expensive repairs.

The village did not have money for restoration and the building had to be abandoned.

Now it is completely empty, teenagers often spend time inside.

Abandoned school in the city of Plyos

In a small town in the Ivanovo region there is an old school, closed in 2011.

It is interesting because the complete set has been preserved inside. All furniture, posters, textbooks are in place.

Of particular interest are the chemistry and biology classrooms with preserved reagents and dead animals in formaldehyde.

The two-story building itself is in good condition. The building is not guarded by anyone, but all entrances are closed and the windows are in place.

From time to time, stalkers open the doors and get inside, after which the locals seal everything up again.

Abandoned churches of the Ivanovo region

A large number of churches are scattered throughout the Ivanovo region, many of which are several centuries old.

The oldest buildings have long since fallen into disrepair and now stand abandoned, attracting only stalkers with their appearance.

Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The abandoned Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located right in the middle of the village of Khripelevo and has not been functioning for a long time.

Built in the 19th century, the temple was decorated in a classical style, like most religious buildings of that era.

The large stone building served its intended purpose until the formation of the USSR, after which it was converted into a warehouse, and after the collapse of the Union it was abandoned.

Nowadays, some fragments of decor have been preserved in the old church; on the walls you can see classical paintings depicting biblical scenes.

    Admission is free.

Church of the Ascension of the Lord in the village of Myt

The old Church of the Ascension of the Lord is located on the very edge of the village of Myt near the local cemetery and lake.

The magnificent architectural ensemble, made in the Baroque style, so uncharacteristic of the Ivanovo region, made the temple unique.

Despite the general disrepair of the building, majestic black baths have been preserved at its top, which stalkers from all over the region come to see.

Most of the building is in poor condition and could collapse at any moment; the interior decor has not been preserved.

Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God

In the village of Nikolaevskoye, Ivanovo region, there is an old church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, built in the style of early classicism at the beginning of the 19th century.

Over the years of abandonment, the building lost all its utensils and was subjected to quite severe destruction, as a result of which it turned into ruins.

Inside, elements of the original painting have been fragmentarily preserved, for which the temple is most often visited.

You may come across villagers who are not very friendly towards visitors.

There is no security at all, entry is free.
