History of the village of Kuchugury
The village of Kuchugury is located in an area where in the VI-I centuries BC. e. was the ancient Greek city of Cimmeric. In 480 BC. e. it became part of the Bosporan kingdom, uniting with neighboring colonial cities. This state occupied territory on both banks of the Kerch Strait. Cimmeric on the Taman Peninsula belonged to the “Asian” part of the kingdom, and the city of the same name, located in the Crimea, belonged to its “European” territories.
Within the modern resort there are two archaeological locations - on the coast and one kilometer away. In a settlement remote from the sea, the remains of fortifications with defensive towers were excavated. It is believed that here was one of the fortresses that was part of the defense system of the “Asian” possessions of the Bosporan kingdom. This fortified settlement supposedly existed until the 4th century and was repeatedly subjected to fires and destruction. The last of them are probably associated with the invasion of the Huns.

It is not precisely established when the village of Kuchugury was formed. Local old-timers, born in the first half of the last century, claimed that their grandfathers were born here. Historians suggest that the pre-revolutionary settlement was collective and consisted of several farms where Cossack families lived. The unusual name of the village, located in a hilly and sometimes ravine area, is believed to come from the Ukrainian word “kuchugury”. Initially, this was the name given to sand dunes, and then to any natural accumulations of a similar shape, for example, hills or mounds.
In 1924, the farms became part of the Fontalovsky rural district, forming the village of Kuchugury. During the Great Patriotic War, fierce battles were fought on the Taman Peninsula. In September 1942, German troops, having crossed the Kerch Strait on ferries, landed near the village and made their way deep into Taman. During the hostilities, Kuchugury was almost completely destroyed, only three buildings survived. The bunker near the seashore reminds us of defensive battles. In 1990, in memory of the fallen defenders and in honor of the liberating soldiers, a memorial was opened in the center of the village.

The village of Kuchugury is located in the north-west of Taman and is part of the Fontalovsky rural settlement, which is located on a small peninsula of the same name. Kuchugury is 4 km away from the administrative center of the settlement, the village of Fontalovskaya. If you look at a map depicting the coastline of the Azov Sea, Kuchugury can be seen approximately in the middle between the resort villages of Peresyp and Ilyich. The distance along the highway to each of them is about 20 km. Getting around Kuchugury is easy: the road laid here turns into a village street and leads directly to the seashore. She bears the name of Yuri Gagarin. Lenin Street, the main highway in Kuchugury, branches off from this artery at a right angle.
A wide beach strip stretches to the northwest of the village. It reaches almost to Cape Pekla, where the mud volcano Plevok is located - a popular natural attraction. To the east, Kuchugury is adjacent to an area dotted with swollen ravines. On the outskirts of the village, between the hills, hides a lake favored by fishermen.
In areas unsuitable for plowing, there is no network of access roads, so the environmental situation in these areas is very favorable. The flora is represented by steppe herbs, trees and shrubs - rose hips, dogwoods, thorns, blackberries. There are many medicinal plants. Among them are licorice, thyme, yarrow, St. John's wort, valerian, string, celandine. In spring and the first half of summer, when the grasses are flowering, you can see how the color palette of the natural carpet covering the ground changes almost every week.
In May you can already swim on local beaches. This month the water usually warms up to +22 °C. In summer its temperature is +23...+25 °C, and near the coast it can reach +27 °C. The weather at this time is little windy, and the sea is most often calm. The beach season continues in Kuchugury until September.
The summer months are characterized by high temperatures. Thermometers at midday often exceed the 30-degree mark. Rains are rare, and severe droughts occur in some years. The sea breeze somewhat softens the heat.
The bulk of precipitation in Kuchugury occurs in late autumn and winter. The coldest month is January, when the average air temperature is –2 °C. Sometimes strong northerly winds bring sudden cold temperatures. Sometimes a fairly extensive ice crust forms along the coast.
Beaches
The coast of the resort is part of the 68-kilometer beach zone Golubitskaya - Peresyp - Kuchugury, framing the southern shores of Temryuk Bay. The coastal strip near the village is not as wide as the beaches in the area between Golubitskaya and Peresyp. The relief conceals the space: the village lands rise above the shore, breaking off at the sandy coastal belt. The descent into the water itself is gentle and completely safe.

Tourists traditionally set up tents in such places. The outlying beaches also attract vacationers who like to sunbathe and swim in uncrowded areas.

Kuchugury and Cape Pekla are connected by a dirt road laid along the edge of the elevated coast. During the season it becomes quite lively. Cars constantly ply along the dirt road, tourists scurry about, heading not only towards the wild beaches, but also directly to the cape. Here, about 60 meters from the seashore, on a small hill, a volcanic mud lake took refuge. It's called "Spit." You can walk here from the edge of the village in 40 minutes.
The diameter of the crater is about 10 m, and up to a dozen people can flounder in the lake at the same time. The area around Plevka is not landscaped and there are no stairs. Vacationers have to contrive to undergo a healing procedure. Volcanic mud is a sticky clay containing beneficial microelements that have a beneficial effect on the skin and nervous system. It is worth considering that she is very active, and a long stay in the “font” is not recommended. To wash off the gray-blue substance from your body, you just need to go down the path to the sea. You can swim on the nearest beach with a rocky bottom or walk along the shore towards the village to comfortably enter the sea on the sand.

Kuchugury, unlike the village of Golubitskaya, cannot boast of a variety of entertainment centers, but tourists do not get bored here. On the central beach of the village, called “Sand Placer”, vacationers can enjoy traditional water activities - banana boat rides, pedal boats, catamarans, and jet skis. It is possible to fly with a parachute attached to the boat. For extreme sports enthusiasts there is a simple bungee.

Fishing enthusiasts can go out to sea by renting a boat from local residents, or cast a fishing rod directly from the shore. The water area is home to more than 20 species of fish, including large martin gobies. Experts say that the best places for fishing are where the bottom is rocky, for example, the coast near Cape Pekly.
As in other resort villages of the Taman Peninsula, private travel agencies operate in Kuchugury. Getting to the resort village by public transport is not very convenient. Those arriving at Anapa airport or the railway station of this city will first need to get to the Temryuk bus station. Story
The official date of formation of the village is 1924. Until 1940, the Red Kuchugur artel was formed here. During the Great Patriotic War, the farm was completely destroyed, only three huts survived, and the residents were evicted by the Germans to Crimea. After the war, until 1951, the “Path of Communism” artel operated here. In 1957, when the land was divided, the Primorsky collective farm was formed, which in 1960 was reorganized into the Golubaya Bukhta wine state farm.
Although the Kuchugury farm in the Temryuk region was finally abolished in the 1970s, it is currently thriving. The population of the village is almost 2.5 thousand people.
