The best resorts in Crimea for relaxation→
Bakhchisarai is the former capital of the Crimean Khanate, but the town has not lost its charm even today. Translated from Crimean Tatar, the name of the city is translated as “garden city”. It is in the Bakhchisarai region that many interesting sights are concentrated: ancient cave cities, rock monasteries, majestic mountains and rocks, gorgeous valleys. For me, this region is one of the most beautiful in Crimea, so we immediately included it in our route around Crimea.

If you are traveling around Crimea by car , I advise you to consider housing not only in the city itself, but also in the villages neighboring it, the price will be lower, and you will get more pleasure from unity with nature.
Personal experience: while exploring this region of Crimea, we stayed in a cozy guest house in the village of Zalesnoye in the vicinity of Bakhchisarai. I can confidently recommend it, silence and beautiful nature are guaranteed. I have already talked about how to book a hotel in Crimea through booking here.

How to get there
It seems inappropriate to talk about how to get there by car. Because the distance between Bakhchisarai and Sevastopol and Yalta is about 40-45 km. In the latter case, however, owners of non-Jeeps will have to work hard. Since the shortest road runs through the Ai-Petri plateau and its quality at times leaves much to be desired.
Public transport, however, is much less convenient. From Yalta, for example, you will have to get through Sevastopol. And spend about 2.5 hours and more than 300 rubles on the road... per person! Coming from the hero city is much easier: about an hour on the road, you need to pay ~160 RUB for a ticket.

Story
Bakhchisaray was founded at the beginning of the 16th century. Although settlements in its vicinity existed even earlier. Thus, during the time of the Golden Horde, not far from modern Bakhchisarai there was a cave city of Kyrk-Er (now Chufut-Kale), and at its foot was the settlement of Salachik. It was Salachik that was chosen by the Crimean khans as the first capital of their state.
Khan's Palace
In 1503, Khan Sahib I Giray founded a new residence and called it Bakhchisarai (translated from Tatar as “palace garden”), around which the new capital grew. By the 17th century, Bakhchisarai had become one of the largest cities in Crimea.
In 1736, the capital of the Crimean Khanate was burned by Russian troops. After the annexation of Crimea to Russia, Bakhchisarai remained an important trading center of the peninsula until the end of the 19th century. Then its value began to fall. Modern Bakhchisaray is a provincial city with a rich history, which is the center of Crimean Tatar culture.

“Crimean Istanbul” on the map of the peninsula
Each Crimean city is special in its own way. Kerch keeps the secrets of the ancient Bosporan kingdom. Yalta attracts with stunning nature and a variety of opportunities for active recreation. Sevastopol impresses with the power of warships and the scale of its squares, embankments, and streets.
Bakhchisarai looks completely different against this background. It is small, many city streets are narrow, winding, paved with stone or paving stones. It is “low”, unlike most Crimean cities; there are almost no multi-story buildings here, but there are many one-story houses, among which mosque minarets rise with noticeable spiers. It is filled with small cafes and souvenir shops, which gives the impression that the city lives only on tourism. At first acquaintance, it may seem provincial, although this word is rather incorrect to apply to Bakhchisarai. This city is interesting because it strives to preserve its identity, traditions and culture of the Crimean Tatar people, and it is noticeable that it is succeeding.
It is impossible not to be imbued with the special spirit of Eastern culture while walking along the ancient streets of Bakhchisarai, from the minarets of which calls to prayer are heard several times a day. Particular hospitality is felt in restaurants where they serve dishes only of national Tatar cuisine: rich shurpa or thick lagman, which should be eaten with a flatbread, and the meal ends with aromatic, strong coffee. And of course, deep differences in cultures and traditions are felt when visiting the main attractions of Bakhchisarai.

Children will definitely be delighted with the Miracle Donkey farm, because here they can spend the whole day with the animals and make friends with them. All animals are already accustomed to human attention, so they know how to get along with even the smallest visitors.
There is a large children's playground on the farm grounds. Therefore, children will have something to do and somewhere to run while adults eat or go about their business.
Salachik Quarter

Its main attraction is the first palace of the Geray khans of the 15th century. The burials of members of the Geray family were allegedly found in it. Today the building houses an exhibition of dishes from the southwestern Crimea (inspection upon request). of the Khan's baths appears in the form of ruins .

Martian lake
This is one of the most beautiful places not only in the vicinity of Bakhchisarai, but throughout Crimea. The lake with an unusual name has an equally unusual appearance. The color of the water is especially striking at first sight. Once upon a time there was a quarry here, but underground springs “kicked out the man” and formed a reservoir of amazing beauty. Today, a huge number of tourists strive to visit here. Many risk jumping into the water from a height, others descend along the flat bottom. You should be careful when swimming here, as the water, thanks to its recharge from underground springs, is always cool. In principle, this is a good option to escape the extreme heat. More details

Entertainment
There is plenty of entertainment in the city. Every vacationer will find something to their liking, whether during the day or at night.
5D cinema-attraction “Oriental Tale”
The facility is located in the old part of the city. At first glance, the attention of tourists is attracted by the building itself, designed in the form of an oriental castle. The construction and opening of the first cinema of its kind in Crimea became possible thanks to Chinese investors. The interior inside is pleasant, modern, and prices are affordable for every vacationer. The emotions at the session are simply off the charts. It’s as if you yourself are a participant in the events taking place. Pictures about nature, racing and, of course, flying are especially popular.

Suatkan Waterfall
Address : village of Bogatoye Gorge (next to the bed of the Suatkan River)
Suatkan is translated from the Tatar language as “throwing out water.” And indeed, Suatkan is a rather powerful and full-flowing waterfall, its height is 13 meters.
The best time to go to see the waterfall is in the spring, as it dries up in the summer. Getting to Suatkan is quite difficult; you have to walk a lot. So it’s better not to take children on such a trip.
Suatkan is surrounded on all sides by virgin yew groves. Many unique flowers, rare herbs and other plants grow here.
Miniature Park
This is no longer a historically significant place or an architectural monument, but a new complex that deserves no less attention than all of the above objects. In Alushta there is also a park “Crimea in Miniature”, but Bakhchisarai is considered the largest on the peninsula. Only here you can see all the historical monuments, architecture of Crimea and attractions. True, on a scale of 1:25, but still. Here you will find the most interesting places in Yalta, the same “Swallow’s Nest”, Simeiz, Sevastopol. There you can even see the Simferopol international airport and the Chernomorskoye wind power plant. And also the famous Mount Mithridates in Kerch. More details

Eski-Kermen – cave city
An ancient settlement on rock formations, it supposedly appeared in the third century and existed until the 8th century. Today it is one of the most popular tourist sites in Crimea. It is famous not only for its incredible views from the plateau. Most tourists come to Eski-Kermen to see the unique cave shrines, for example, the Assumption of Mary. There is also an impressively sized siege well, with a stone staircase and a small reservoir at the bottom. During your visit you must follow the rules. It is not advisable to walk alone; it is easy to get lost in the numerous caves.
More details about Eski-Kermen GPS coordinates: 44°36'22.3″N 33°44'18.8″E (44.606191, 33.738567) Minus: it’s a long walk, about 6 km, but you can take a quad tour or horseback riding. Entrance 100 rubles.
Naturally, there are other equally interesting and significant places in Bakhchisarai. But not all tourists come to the resort just to enjoy the sights. And in general, it’s better to combine useful things with pleasant things, so let’s look further at where you can have fun.
Cave monastery "Kachi-Kalyon"
Unfortunately, not a single building has survived on the territory of the settlement, founded around the 4th century. But there is a healing spring, unique views and the most positive energy. Each of the grottoes of the complex is of particular interest. For example, in the first two there were premises for processing grapes and making wine. In the third grotto there was a temple-funeral complex, in which only some remains of three churches have survived today. On the way from 3 to 4 grottoes, the largest, a lot of small caves are discovered. Apparently these were monastic cells. It is impossible to get to the fifth cave without special equipment. Kuibyshevo-Vysokoe Highway
Do you like to find locations from your favorite films in real life? Then you will definitely like the idea of visiting the highway between the villages of Vysokoye and Kuibyshevo.
It was here that one of the episodes of the Soviet film Prisoner of the Caucasus was filmed. Remember the moment when Shurik met Edik, whose car was constantly stalling? And how did he first meet Nina? This is where these scenes were filmed.
Next to the highway is Mount Utyug, which has the same shape. If you climb the mountain, you can get to a natural observation deck, from where you can see Kuibyshevo and its surroundings.
Sphinxes of Churuk-Su
The small river Churuk-Sun flows through Bakhchisarai, and it is in its valley that a unique natural monument is located - stone sphinxes. Limestone formations in the form of stone pillars of bizarre shapes truly resemble figures created by human hands. This amazing place is very popular among tourists. You get great photos here, and the views of the surrounding area and the city are mesmerizing at first sight. If you are in these parts, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy these unique landscapes. Ancient Karaite cemetery
Address : located on the territory of Chufut-Kale
Karaites were once a significant religious stratum of the Crimean population. This particular Karaite cemetery existed between the 6th and 13th centuries. Its total area is approximately 10 hectares; there are more than 10 thousand graves on this territory.
On the graves of the Karaite cemetery, many interesting and beautiful tombstones have been preserved, the appearance of which directly reminds of their ancient age. The cemetery itself looks more like some kind of abandoned park, in which tourists have not walked for a long time. There is a very peaceful, quiet and calm atmosphere there.

Holy Dormition Monastery
The monastery, which is still active today, was presumably built on a steep cliff in the 8th century. Of particular interest and reverent delight is the oldest and most beautiful building of the monastery complex - the Assumption Church, as if hanging over a cliff, it has a regular rectangular shape. And at first sight it fascinates. You can reach the temple via a high staircase of sufficient width. Opposite the church are the monks' cells and utility rooms. And at the very base of the stairs is the Gethsemane Chapel, built in 1867. Nearby is one of the surviving fountains. It is noteworthy: all this was previously located in the middle of a luxurious garden. A few trees remained from it. More details
