General information and history of the city
In the northeast of the Yeisk Peninsula, at the very beginning of the Yeisk Spit, there is a small urban settlement - Yeisk. A cozy seaside town with a fairly “young” history has long gained a reputation as a famous sea trading port and is far from the last place among the famous Azov resorts of Kuban.

At the end of the 18th century. On the picturesque shores of the Taganrog Bay of the Sea of Azov and the Yeisk estuary, formed by the mouth of the Yeya River, a fortress was built - Khan's town - conceived as a reserve residence and capital of the principality of the Crimean Khan Shagin-Girey.
In 1847, the ataman of the Black Sea Cossack army, Grigory Rasp, and Prince M. Vorontsov came up with the idea of creating a port and a city on the territory of a fortress that was already dilapidated by that time. Emperor Nicholas I liked the idea and on February 23 (March 6), 1848, the highest decree was signed: “On the Sea of Azov, within the Black Sea army, at the so-called Yeisk Spit, open a port and establish a city, which will be called the port city of Yeisk.”
The official birthday of the city is considered to be August 19 (31 according to the New Style) 1848, when the grand opening of the port city of Yeisk took place to the celebratory volleys of cannons and the roar of the Cossack orchestra of the Black Sea Army.
The temporary commander of the city under construction was Captain of the Black Sea Army Pyotr Litevsky. The first permanent mayor of Yeisk became in 1849 none other than Prince Alexander Sergeevich Golitsyn himself. Already in the first years of its existence, Yeysk began to actively develop and build up. The reason for this was the benefits provided to immigrants at first. From 2,452 inhabitants in 1848, in 10 years the population grew to 17,539 people.

At the same time, local entrepreneurs create better conditions for tourists by opening cozy restaurants.
The resort is a real paradise for connoisseurs of Caucasian and Kuban cuisine. Restaurants serving Caucasian cuisine serve meat cooked over an open fire. In establishments with a Kuban menu you can taste borscht, stanitsa-style dumplings and, of course, the famous “farm cutlet”. Pubs with a large assortment of foaming drinks are becoming increasingly popular. Prices, as at any resort in Russia, are different. It will be expensive and not very tasty near the beach areas. So it is better to eat away from them.

The climate of Yeisk is the same as throughout the coastal territory of the Krasnodar Territory: hot summers, warm seas, short, almost snowless winters without much frost. As in all actively developing port cities, in Yeisk there are problems associated with environmental pollution by port-based industrial enterprises and frequent accidents on ships transporting oil and other products that are dangerous from the point of view of environmentalists. The opening of an oil terminal in the city caused a lot of protest among local residents. In November 2011 In Yeisk, there was a leak of fuel oil from a tanker that had not been cleared of the remnants of previously transported liquefied gas, and at the time of refueling, these remnants were vented into the atmosphere. The shallow water cools down quickly. But you can still swim – +19°. This is the best time for a relaxing holiday and walks through natural attractions.
Population of Yeysk
The population of Yeysk is increasing every year. The number of residents in the city is about to reach the hundred thousand mark. Children under 17 years of age and pensioners make up almost 40% of the total number of residents. The increase, unfortunately, is not yet natural, although the birth rate is at a fairly high level, and is mainly due to migrants. Some people move to Yeysk because of the climate and healing mud. Many migrate from the far North to be closer to the warmth and sun.
The local people are quite cheerful and friendly, but for some reason they don’t like visitors, especially from the capital. Obviously, there is a certain “complex” at play here, which is quite strongly developed among the population of small towns.
People also complain about the rudeness of market traders, but this is rather a feature of workers in a certain field in any city.
In the summer, residents of Yerevan come to life, you can often meet smiling people in the city, but starting in the fall, the townspeople go into “hibernation” - few people walk the streets, everyone seems sad and sleepy.

The armored boat was built in 1944 with money from the residents of Yeisk. In 1975, in the central part of the beach on Yeisk Spit, it was installed on a pedestal. Old-timers advise caution when buying used apartments in houses older than 2-3 years, since there may be fungus on the walls and ceiling, which is very difficult to remove. The total length of the western and eastern beaches of Yeysk is about 2.5 km. The famous Yeisk Spit separates the estuary from Taganrog Bay. During the winter, however, the asphalt breaks down, but by the holiday season it is carefully patched up.
In some areas, people complain that potholes in the roads are being filled with stones due to lack of funds for repair work, but this is the exception rather than the rule. Several streets in the center have been paved with paving stones since time immemorial.
Road surface in the city
Almost every part of the city has its own food market. The most important one is the Central Market, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can be quickly reached on foot from anywhere in the central area, and can also be reached in a few minutes by any of the minibuses running around the city. In the central part there are all the administrative buildings of Yeysk, the port administration, and the offices of many large city companies.
Transport. The city has an airport, which is a joint airfield: in addition to civil aviation, it is used by the Russian Air Force and Navy aviation. If gasification and electrification in the city are in complete order, even sewerage is available in almost all areas (those private sectors that do not have city drainage systems use septic tanks and, in principle, have no problems), then there is an obvious disorder with water. The all-Russian problem with the deterioration of communications makes itself felt here too. In Yeysk, there are often interruptions in water supply, both hot and cold. There are places where the water is often turned off at night, there are houses where on the top floors it flows in a barely noticeable thin stream. In this regard, those residents of Yerevan who live in new residential complexes and cottage villages, as well as in the private sector, are lucky. The developers took care of future residents in advance and equipped the complexes with additional pumps and autonomous boiler rooms. In private homes, you yourself regulate the supply of hot and cold water and heat by installing a pumping tank and a conventional double-circuit boiler on the site. Local residents also advise buying apartments with autonomous heating, where you will have your own personal heating season with a comfortable indoor temperature.
