Cultural and architectural sights of Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk, photos of the city, beaches, museums, historical sights) attracts tourists in many ways.

Active tourists will be interested in visiting the following places:

Beach on Sudzhuk Spit

A very popular and beloved beach of Novorossiysk by tourists. The peculiarity is that the coma escapes into the sea almost 1 km (from Novaya Zemlya). The water is very clean, transparent, you can dive and snorkel. The covering is large and medium pebbles. The depth increases intensively, the bottom is flat and pebbly. The width of the spit at the beginning reaches 200 m, at the end - barely 2-5 m.

Infrastructure – rental of any beach equipment, shade canopies, umbrellas, sun loungers. Locker rooms, toilets, trash bins have been installed. Entertainment - children's inflatable slides, water attractions, sports grounds. A bicycle path runs straight along the spit. It is convenient to get there by public transport - it runs from anywhere in the city.

Feedback from tourists is positive. An excellent place for active recreation. Lots of entertainment, convenient access to the sea. Guests like that the area is cleaned regularly. The downside is that it's crowded.

Galleries and museums of Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk is a city with a difficult fate, so there are many museums here that tell about the history of the city.

The Museum of Military Equipment is dedicated to the memory and exploits of Soviet soldiers during the Great Patriotic War. All museum exhibits were raised from the bottom of the sea in the waters of Novorossiysk. Particularly interesting is the selection of anchors from different eras and ships. The oldest anchor is more than 300 years old. But most of the museum’s exhibits are Soviet military equipment used during the Second World War.

The Novorossiysk Historical Museum-Reserve was built more than 100 years ago. Materials for the museum were collected over 20 years. During the Second World War, almost all the historical values of the museum were lost. In 1960, the museum started working again.

Its exhibitions tell the history of the city, describe nature, and demonstrate historical products made of precious metals. In addition, the museum includes memorial complexes and exhibitions dedicated to the military exploits of the city’s defenders.

The warship-museum "Mikhail Kutuzov" is part of the Black Sea Fleet Museum. The cruiser has a rich history. For almost 50 years, the cruiser "Mikhail Kutuzov" was in service with the Soviet fleet, more than once found itself in the combat zone, and provided support to the allies. Currently, the ship is a historical heritage.

In the Eastern district of the city there is a house-museum of a well-known Russian writer of the 20th century. Nikolai Ostrovsky. Here he lived and wrote his works. The exhibition displays the writer’s personal belongings, books signed by the author himself, newspapers and letters.

Soviet development of Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk, as a fairly large and developed industrial city, took an active part in both Russian revolutions. During the revolution of 1905

The Novorossiysk Republic was created here, which existed for a very short time.
During the February Revolution of 1917, power in the city passed into the hands of the Provisional Government, which was liquidated at the end of November of the same year. And on December 1, 1917,
Soviet power was proclaimed in the city.

Many people gathered in the church square for revolutionary rallies

In connection with the outbreak of the Civil War and the offensive of the White Guard troops and interventionists, it was decided not to return the ships of the Sevastopol Fleet that arrived at the port of Novorossiysk in the summer of 1918, but to scuttle them in Tsemes Bay. About 20 ships and vehicles ended up at the bottom of the bay on June 18-19. Some are still there today.

In June 1918, about 20 ships of the Russian fleet were sunk near Novorossiysk

At the end of August 1918

Novorossiysk passed into the hands of the White Guard. From the Novorossiysk port, which in the spring of 1920 became the main evacuation base, mass emigration of participants in the “white” movement and civilians who did not want to live under the Soviets began. Episodes of such evacuation can be imagined from the films “Running” and “Two Comrades Served.” The “Exodus” Monument installed on the Embankment reminds of these historical events, which is like an illustration of the final fragment of the film “Two Comrades Served.”

In the spring of 1920, thousands of emigrants left Russia forever from the port of Novorossiysk

Nicholas II's sister Olga and her children, Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, politician Pyotr Struve, and the famous General Denikin also emigrated from Novorossiysk. On May 1, 1920, a May Day demonstration took place in the already “red” Novorossiysk.

After the establishment of peaceful life, Novorossiysk began to develop not as a resort, but as an industrial port city. Factories operated here, a port functioned, by the end of the 30s illiteracy was completely eliminated, and at the same time most of the ships sunk in 1918 were raised from the bottom of Tsemes Bay.

On the eve of the Second World War, dozens of industrial enterprises operated in Novorossiysk

Dolphinariums and zoos of the city

Like any seaside city, Novorossiysk has its own dolphinarium. Its location is Sudzhuk Spit. There is a large free parking lot in the immediate vicinity of the dolphinarium. The seating for spectators is very conveniently located. The show program is shown 2 times a day.

The show features dolphins and fur seals. The performance lasts 60 minutes. Any filming is permitted. The cost of a ticket to a show with dolphins is 600 rubles. Children under 4 years old are admitted free of charge.

The Novorossiysk Zoo "Do-Do" has been welcoming guests since 2007. On the territory of the zoo there is a pond where representatives of the rarest species of waterfowl live. The territory of the natural stream is home to cranes, pelicans and storks.

The large building of the zoo houses enclosures in which exotic birds and animals live, including Australian marsupials. On the territory of the zoo, tourists will be able to see horses of various breeds, camels and ostriches. There is a children's playground in the park. For adults, the ticket price is 300 rubles. Children's tickets are cheaper.

Cellars of Sauk-Dere (Vin)

The cellars of the Sauk-Dere winery are one of the most interesting places in Novorossiysk. Sauk-Dere is a beautiful village located among the foothills, where shell rock was mined until 1936. Since 1936, the production of champagne wines began to actively develop in the USSR, and it was decided to build special tunnels for storing wine at the site of limestone mines.

Initially, the length of the quarries was 18 km, of which 3 km of cellars were built, some of which were destroyed by the Germans during the war. Currently, in addition to modern champagne wines, the wine storage facilities of Sauk-Dere also store Russia’s largest enoteca (collection of cognacs and wines), which includes about 250 types of vintage wines per 100,000 bottles. The oldest wines have been aged for 50 years, and among the rarities are discontinued Grozny cognacs and Taman dessert wine, for which the required grape variety no longer exists.

Natural attractions of Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk, as a city located near the Black Sea, has not only beautiful beaches. This city is also famous for its interesting nature.

Natural attractions that are definitely worth visiting and taking photos:

  • Tsemes Grove - the most popular place for walking. On 150 hectares of its territory, a wide variety of deciduous trees grow (ash, poplars, maples) and representatives of the rarest insect species live (stag beetle, Caucasian ground beetle, polyxena butterfly).

  • Sudzhuk spit and the lagoon formed by it. The spit consists of 2 narrow strips of land, which together with the coastline form a triangle. Inside the triangle is a quiet lagoon. In winter, when the sea is not calm, waterfowl live here.
  • The Circassian Gorge is located in the very center of the city and is a historical and cultural monument. Archaeological excavations were carried out at this place. Scientists have found jewelry, arrowheads, bladed weapons from bygone times, and human remains here. The gorge is considered a mystical place: being here alone, a person experiences inexplicable fear and hears strange sounds. A small river flows through the gorge and has several small waterfalls.
  • 14 km from the city there is a picturesque natural lake Abrau . The magnificent nature of this area attracts tourists, thanks to which there are several recreation centers located here.
  • St. Andrew's Pass , located on one of the ridges, offers a wonderful view of the city and the sea from a great height.

Myskhako

Myskhako is a suburban village located six kilometers from the city.

Myskhako is located outside Tsemes Bay, on the seashore, at the foot of Mount Koldun, which offers views of Novorossiysk and its surroundings all the way to Kabardinka.

Myskhako is notable for the fact that local residents, tired of the city bustle, come here to relax. Many people build dachas here, and some of the houses are not inferior in beauty to the famous villas of the French Riviera.

The townspeople are attracted by the clean, albeit narrow, but well-maintained beaches of the village, where you can ride a boat or catamaran, and go diving or spearfishing.

Myskhako has some of the best vineyards in Russia. The history of winemaking in the village goes back about a hundred years. Agro-produced wines, famous for their unsurpassed quality, are supplied to the Kremlin. Tourists from all over the coast come to taste and purchase the famous Myskhak wines.

There are no sanatoriums or boarding houses in Myskhako, but you can rent accommodation of any degree of comfort: from just a room in a guest house to an entire villa.

The village has cafes, restaurants, sports grounds, and indoor tennis courts.

Here you can visit the “Death Valley” memorial complex, take a trip on an excursion steam locomotive to the beautiful Guam Gorge, or by jeep to the Mezmaya waterfalls.

Wide Beam

The Shirokaya Balka tract is one of the most beautiful and popular vacation spots in Novorossiysk. The village is located on the Abraus Peninsula on the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range. Folded mountains of medium height surround Shirokaya Balka with beautiful landscapes and cozy places for tourism and recreation.

This is not only one of the most beautiful, but also environmentally friendly places on the Black Sea coast of Russia. The flora of the tract consists of hawthorn, downy oak, red juniper, barberry, above are juniper woodlands, jasmine, fieldfare, etc.

Tsemes Bay

Tsemes Bay is not only a natural attraction of Novorossiysk, but also the most important object from an economic point of view. Vessels for a wide variety of purposes arrive at the port every day. The coastline of the bay, 15 km long, has port facilities and quite good beaches on its territory.

In the cold season, the bay does not freeze; the sea water temperature does not drop below +9°C. In summer the water warms up to +27°C.

The bay got its name due to the small river (Tsemes) flowing into it. Until 1829, this territory belonged to the Turkish state. Having become part of the Russian Empire, Novorossiysk became the second most important port on the Black Sea, second only to Sevastopol. The bay is very convenient for the arrival of large ships: the average depth is 24 m, width is 15 km.

In winter and autumn, the weather in the bay is unfavorable: very strong winds blow, which often causes shipwrecks. Such bad weather and the sad consequences after it have been observed here since ancient times, which thereby attracts divers, who often find ancient coins and dishes here.

Tsemes Bay is located in the central zone of the city. Entrance to the territory is free.

Holy Springs (Gornyi farm, Neberjay spring)

The Holy Springs or Neberjay springs, located near Novorossiysk, have been known to people for their healing power since ancient times. The lower springs were named after Christian saints: John the Baptist, St. Nicholas (Nicholas the Pleasant), Holy Great Martyr Barbara, Apostles Peter and Paul. Scientists and doctors believe that the whole secret of the power of water is the content of silver ions in it, which produce a healing effect on the body.

The name of the fifth, upper spring of this place, “Holy Hand,” comes from the shape of the stone in the shape of a woman’s hand, along which healing water flowed. During the construction of the railway, the upper source was destroyed, and after the landslide of 1997-1998 it was completely enclosed under the railway road. For this reason, people began to visit the 4 lower springs more.

Since 1994, on the initiative of local residents, Cossacks of the Suburban Kurene and representatives of the Greek diaspora in Russia, 3 chapels (John the Baptist, St. Nicholas, Healer Panteleimon) and a bell tower at the source of John the Baptist were built.
